Crash Course in Romance Season 1 Episode 9 Recap And Review

Crash Course in Romance Season 1 Episode Recap

Episode 9 of Crash Course in Romance begins with Chi-yeol and Haeng-seon being caught outside the house by Su-hui and the other mothers. Chi-yeol has the right to tutor Hae-e and decides that they should talk about it in his office.

While there, Chi0yeol moves on, admits the truth about Hae-e's unfair dismissal, and decides to do his part for society. He has his whole speech prepared… but then Haeng-seon walks in and claims that he’s the one who asked Chi0yeol to do all this and is trying to sacrifice himself for him.

Chi-yeol chides her for trying to fix things, and admits that she's facing a bigger problem right now, separating her from the other moms. As a result, the couple decides to jump and come up with another plan to deal with this huge scandal.

Returning home, Sun-jae's mother confronts Hui-jae, the homebound chicken, and tries to get an answer from him. However, she returns to her room and sits in the corner of the room, hugging her knees. Something shook him, but what could it be?

In the morning, Chi-yeol comes to work, but the director already wants to talk. He demands that Chi-yeol stop tutoring Hae-e because he is under pressure from the other parents, who are threatening to quit and boycott the entire program. Chi-yeol decides to play them at their own game and even offers to let himself go. Chi-yeol is unhappy with the system, especially the morals of the mothers who try to take the moral high ground here, and the mothers who simply don't like other children having the same opportunities as the elite.

The mothers gather together and decide to look deeper into Chi-yeol's personal life. Do you remember that moment in the parking lot? Well, Su-hui thinks Haeng-seon and Chi-yeol are having an affair, and so the tutoring continues. Su-hui decides to take advantage of this and posts on Skymom about Haeng-seon having love with Hae-e, a private tutor for Chi-yeol.

Of course, word gets around and people jump to conclusions. As a result, many people decide to boycott Haeng-seon's shop. Haeng-seon and Chi-yeol are both completely unconscious when they find out. Chi-yeol wants to explore legal avenues, but given that Su-hui is an “influential person,” the lawyers are reluctant to do much. As for Haeng-seon, he is more direct and turns to see Su-hui at his house.

Haeng-seon confronts Su-hui and shows what she's been doing, including exchanging lunch boxes and food. Of course, it doesn't work when the news breaks online and Hae-e reads all the comments on the forums. He's not happy, and Chi-yeol urges Haeng-seon not to do anything rash and to leave it for now.

A big live streamer named Mr. Popular goes to Haeng-seon's store and immediately bombards him with questions about Chi-yeol. Some of the kids at school see this and tease Hae-e, calling her “sexy mom,” and Sun-jae and Geon-hu get involved. Although the kids are disciplined, Sun-jae and Geon-hu bond while in jail, as Sun-jae offers to write an apology letter for him. It's a really cool moment and one of the highlights here.

Chi-yeol is furious when she finds out about Mr. Popular's stream and goes straight to Haeng-seon's shop after being cheated on in class. She's not there, though, because she's at the hospital with Jae-woo, who has a one-night stand after all the stress that's been going on.

On the bus ride home, Hae-e tries to think of what to do, thinking twice about posting online. The last time he told anyone about Haeng-seon, Se-na (the girl he's friends with) spilled it to the school. Hae-e feels useless and returns home in despair.

Chi-yeol meets Haeng-seon at the hospital and decides to go out to eat together. Haeng-seon, of course, falls asleep in the car after the tension of everything that is the opposite of Chi-yeol. Instead of going to the restaurant, Chi-yeol decides to drive along the Han River and helps comfort her by wrapping his coat around her.

When Haeng-seon stands up and stares at the river in awe of the skyline, Chi-yeol realizes that he does indeed have feelings for her. However, he will stop tutoring Hae-e and find another shop to have lunch. It's clear that he's trying to protect Haeng-seon, but it's still a hard blow for all of them. In the hope of doing so, this means the post will be removed and the scandal will disappear.

When the other moms find out, they nervously cheer and cheer for their "victory," though Sun-jae's mom doesn't exactly celebrate with them.

Time passes and Haeng-seon ponders whether or not to transfer Hae-e to another Academy. Surfing the internet, Haeng-seon spots an admissions talk show hosted by none other than Chi-yeol. Haeng-seon decides to show up, and he arrives just in time for Chi-yeol to show up. Only... Haeng-seon didn't really know he'd be there, and he's trying to keep a low profile.

When the moms start humiliating Haeng-seon by not recognizing him and talking about the scandal, he tries to walk away, but Chi-yeol takes the microphone and openly admits that he has feelings for Haeng-seon. He is the reason the tutoring continues because he is in love with her.

Chi-yeol stares at Haeng-seon as he says this, and the episode ends as he looks at her in confusion.

  Episode Review

Go Chi-yeol! This ending was very satisfying, and seeing how much our star math teacher cares about Haeng-seon shows how much he's grown and changed over the course of 9 episodes.

What's particularly interesting about this scene is how Haeng-seon sticks out like a sore thumb in this crowd. He is the only one wearing red in a sea of black and white. Now, red usually represents anger, but it can also mean love and passion, and it's almost like a visual metaphor for Chi-yeol looking at her love interest.

The mix between the drama of life and the romance between Chi-yeol and Haeng-seon ultimately makes this such an enjoyable watch, but at the same time, the darker elements of this series, especially the mystery with the ball bearings, give it something else. fringe and one that works surprisingly well.

However, we don't see much of this situation except for Sun-jae hiding in the corner of his brother's room, which only reinforces the feeling that he's behind and not in charge.

Crash Course in Romance is easily shaping up to be one of the best K-dramas this year and has been consistently excellent throughout its run. Let's hope it continues for the rest of the season!
