The Calling Season 1
Episode 6 Preview & Review
Avi was hallucinating his father, and he was that night. Avi arrives at the station early and explains the theory that Elizabeth planted the bomb on Kathleen.
He fears that the vision may someday herald the detonation of a real bomb. Elisabeth sent several messages against Anna and called for the nursery to be closed.
He was hiding somewhere in the States to avoid arrest and plan a real bomb. Danny innocently informs Paul that his mother is coming home, but for that to happen Paul will have to move out, the detectives ask for access to any of Elizabeth's electronic recordings, and Janine goes into the bedroom and finds an invoice.
Now Danny comes to them and changes his position on who planted the bomb. He thinks his mother did it, as his first father said. Earl follows Brad Holt because the suspicion is still not far from him. One of the weird things he does is sit outside the nursery and camp there for long periods of time.
Anna doesn't recognize the voice when Avi plays her a tape. Janine controls Sarah and plays the same for her. Desperate to make amends and jump-start her career, she tries her hand at questioning again.
Although he talks badly about Kathleen, he successfully manipulates Sarah. (engages Sarah with mutual hatred of their bosses). He knows that Janie is doing this to get information from Sarah and also feels that Janie will go a long way in her career.
Sara reveals that she doesn't love Anna and that her opinion echoes that of the others. He is not a good person and maybe he knows who is threatening. But he didn't comment on Elizabeth, perhaps indicating to detectives that jumping to conclusions about her was not the right strategy.
One, a kindergarten bomb; secondly, Elizabeth is missing from her home. Avi and Janine go to the Valley Forge gallery where Elizabeth works, and Paul currently has an assignment (they find him through the invoice). Rasgon greets them, but is very reticent about the details. He only reveals that there are rumors at the club that billionaire Peter Hanney is eloping with Elizabeth. But Hanni has no idea where he is.
Kathleen informs the detectives about Serras' difficult financial situation. Was this the reason for Elizabeth's disappearance? Earl follows Brad and the places he visits make him uncomfortable. He actually plans to bomb the kindergarten. The detectives visit a psychologist who reveals that Elizabeth is a very devoted mother and would not even abandon her children. He also loved his job (he doesn't know Elizabeth quit) and how his family was positioned in life.
Janine meets Darren, her ex. He is in finance and wants information about Hanney. From what Darren tells her, Janine suspects Hanney, with his ego and arrogance, he may not have been able to accept Elizabeth's rejection and killed her. The detectives sit outside Hanni's childhood home. Janine is triggered when Avi mentions her supposedly wealthy past. They both hate rich people, but he goes out and knocks on the door.
To their surprise, they find Han at home. It tells a completely different story. Elizabeth and he were in love. They had planned to elope, but he never came. Who among these men is lying? Avi concludes that Elizabeth is dead anyway and that she was deliberately taken from her sons.
The detectives visit Paul, who is working on an errand at a house. They try to take something from Paul by antagonizing him. They mention Hanni's name and Paul starts to get angry. But the end result is zilch.
As Brad huddles in a secluded barn, Earl calls for support. When he walked in, he was surprised to find Brad and Anna in a compromised position. That night, Anna is brutally attacked by someone and left unconscious on the sidewalk.
Episode Review
Janie's maturity came with a rather pleasant structure at work. Out of the blue, Anna and Brad's relationship was set up for the tension to go down another path. It had to be someone we already met, right? Finally, the cat is out of the hat. But if he's in a relationship with Anna, why is he planting the bombshell?
It doesn't look like much, but the next episode should shed more light on it. Janine emerges as a real contender here, and Canfield plays her many shades quite well. The portrayal of Janie as a real person with changing moods and priorities has been strangely satisfying.
His real ambition is to become a captain one day, and he fits in well. Episode 6 also threw Peter Hanney our way. But he doesn't look like a murderer. Being rich is a crime as Avi says, so he must be guilty of "something". And where is Elizabeth?
We need more flashbacks to place him properly in the narrative. So far he's been a nightmare, but we can't feel a nightmare, can we? Make it human and see how our reaction changes.
